Kubu

Lead Engineer: Jeanette Muñoz Abela

Lead Architects: dandDLab Design

Discipline: Structural Engineering

Kubu started as a dream from a visionary musician who wanted to create an open-air street concert with a unique twist. The idea was to design a structure where the band could be seen from all angles in the city square and nearby streets. This vision called for a stage that could rise and fall during the performance, adding a touch of drama and surprise for the audience.

We were thrilled to help bring this ambitious idea to life! Working hand in hand with talented steel fabricators, a top-notch lifting team, and sound and lighting experts, we ensured that every part of the design was both safe and doable. The structural elements of the cube were carefully crafted, focusing on keeping everything stable and secure during the lifting operations.

More information
One of the most exciting parts of the Kubu project was designing the lifting mechanism. The top of the cube needed to move up and down multiple times during the show, which required spot-on coordination and solid safety measures. Thorough testing and working closely with everyone involved ensured that the lifting process went smoothly and the musicians were safe at all times.

Kubu was a fun and challenging project that pushed the boundaries of interdisciplinary design. Seeing the joy and surprise on the faces of the audience made all the hard work worthwhile, and Kubu remains a testament to the power of creative collaboration.
