Dr. Jeanette Muñoz Abela has been elected Vice-President of the European Council of Civil Engineers (ECCE), bringing with her a wealth of experience and leadership to the organization. Jeanette, who currently chairs the Permanent Committee on Engineering at Kamra tal-Periti and has previously served as its Vice-President, will now represent the civil engineering profession at the European level in her new role as Vice-President.

In response to her election, Jeanette stated, “It is a privilege to be elected as Vice-President of ECCE, an institution that has consistently advocated for the civil engineering profession across Europe since 1985. We are at a crucial juncture where civil engineers play a key role in addressing pressing challenges, such as the climate crisis and advances in artificial intelligence, through sustainable solutions and innovation.”

Her election not only highlights her personal achievements but also underscores Kamra tal-Periti’s ongoing influence in shaping the civil engineering profession both locally and internationally. This appointment brings significant insights and influence to Malta’s civil engineering community, further strengthening ties between national and European engineering organizations.

In her new role, Jeanette will work alongside ECCE President Platonas Stylianou and the executive board on several key initiatives, including the development of a common training framework to facilitate the mobility of engineers across Europe and the upcoming 2025 release of the Civil Professional Book, which will highlight the profession’s contributions across the continent.

ECCE is also focusing on the digitization of the construction industry, with a position paper in development addressing Building Information Modelling (BIM) and artificial intelligence. As ECCE approaches its 40th anniversary, it continues to collaborate closely with universities and industry leaders to ensure that the civil engineering profession adapts to emerging challenges.
